Hope this is not too late to reply to this post.
I believe that the overall loop gain will affect the strength of oscillations. For example, at 100kHz there is no problem, but when the coil becomes a 1/2-turn at 450MHz then there could be a tendency for the oscillator to stop oscillating.
The GDO is a compromise between performance and simplicity.

grid dip meter frequency pulling Empty grid dip meter frequency pulling

Post by f4gsw Tue Mar 10, 2015 10:44 am

Hello !

i'm working on a grid dip meter and i have some question about the design of such an oscillator

i Wonder if the averall loop gain do have an influence on the grid dip behavior (sensitivity, frequency pulling, freq stability, oscillating level stability) ?

my design looks like sm0vpo's . the only difference is that there is no c1a/c1c  caps. the varcap i use has only two sections ~ 400p and ~ 100p

best regards
