That is an excellent project.
I once made a few circuits on those lines for the old FT-101B. I cannot remember if I posted them on the homepages. If I remember rightly there is ony a simple filter. I shall have to check.

The design dates back to the tubes based "select-o-ject" filter, but was updated to use ICs

while not perfect, it offers room for improvement and may be a nice addition to a homebrew receiver, not just that, putting a speaker in the same box, will give a nice ext speaker unit
