Re: Change of forum
Interesting, I am also still running the old Internet Exploder but I have become accustomed to ignoring adverts. I just don't see them anymore.
It can be a bit embarrasing - about three months ago Maj-Lis came into the computer room and was shocked. She thought I was surfing for pornography. I was accessing the "isohunt" site for torrents for (family) films. Around the side of the screen were pictures of scantily clad ladies (generic term) available in Upplands Väsby and Sigtuna. I never actually saw the adverts on the page, but Maj-Lis homed in on them in about 10ms.
As regards the hosting, I am hosting my own homepages, both the main server (www.sm0vpo.com) and the secret server (www.sm0vpo.com:800).
The forum has been hosted by a relative for the past three years or something, but as from this weekend gone I changed to a new, commercial host. I still see the ads but I don't see them, if you know what I mean (and there are no scantily clad ladies, either!!).
As a matter of interest, the www.sm0vpo.com:800 was also "hacked" this weekend and AVG-free went berserk. I had a list of about 150 Trojan-Horse infections and the processor was running at 100% (as well as the fans). I have changed to another computer on the DMZ and I shall re-install the old Dell (2.66GHz machine) and keep that as a swapsie for the next strike.
The main pages, however, are on a Raspberry Pi under the Linux OS. Interesting that the RasPi is faster than the DELL
Ok, then have a nice evening. Maj-Lis and I have been doing a bit more decorating and throwing away a lot more of our accumulated stuff.
Very best regards from Harry - SM0VPO

Why is it that one is reluctant to throw away a plate worth $1 because it is in good condition, but never used?

Re: Change of forum
OK, that explains it all!
Maybe it is also because I am a bit of an oldfashioned guy, I am still using Internet Exploder...
For some reason I always had the impression that Harry was running the forum software on his own computer at home, but apparently I was wrong.

Re: Change of forum
Guys, if you install Adblock plus into Google Chrome or Firefox, you won't see ANY adverts!
I'll tell you how good it is.... Ruud mentioned in his post about iPod adverts, and I thought "what are you talking talking about, there's no adverts here". Then Harry confirmed there were, and then I realised that I have Adblock installed in both Chrome and Firefox browsers. It's just a small plug in program that blocks adverts, it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It's brilliant!
Best of all, it's free!

Re: Change of forum
The new forum is free, and the ad is the reason it is free.
If you don't click the link then you will not win an i-pad, but if you do click then you probably won't win one
I have not clicked anything, but I have got a free forum out of it, so I am a winner.
There are a few differences, but I find them very easy to understand and use (or ignore).
Best regards from Harry - SM0VPO

Re: Change of forum
I noticed that there is an advertisement on the new forum.
(You can 'win' an I-pad.)
Is this the idea? I never noticed this on the 'old' forum.
Or is the new forum sponsored?

Change of forum
In recent weeks I have been rather active on the firum and tried to keep it as up-to-date as possible. I shall continue to do so.
The forum was hosted by a private individual in Sweden, who on 2012-11-24 decided to discontinue hosting the SM0VPO. This forum was created as a replacement and will be maintained by myself as administrator.
EDIT: I have today received email from the previous host stating that it was his service provider who had a linking problem for several days and that removing the forum was not a deliberate act but unfortunate timing.
Harry - 17th December 2012.
I also want to have two moderators who have the power to edit, delete posts and to ban users who post commercial advertisements for established companies. A member posting an occasional link to a company of interest is quite acceptable. If anyone feels a posting is inapropriate then please tell me or one of the moderators.
The new forum has a 20MB capacity so this means that I needed to restrict picture sizes to 300x200 pixels, and obsolete messages will be cleaned away.
Having stated the new rules, please feel free to communicate, ask questions, give the benefit of your own knowledge and in general HAVE FUN. Topics do not need to be serious. Hamradio, commubications, radio control of models, WBFM transmitters and bugs are all valid topics. The only technical topics I will object to (within reason) are crime and radio jamming.
Enjoy - Harry - SM0VPO
