Hello everyone,

In this world there are three things that are certain:
1 - Birth
2 - Death
3 - hard disk failure

Around the 23rd of March 2014 I had a hard disk failure and lost my all of the files for homepages, and even the passwords to login to the external host server I had at the time. I made the mistake of using teleport.exe to recover the files.

Teleport is a great program for downloading a copy of a complete site on to your own hard disk. You can configure it replicate the directory structure, or simply download all the files of a specific type. This great for getting PDF datasheets, freeware program files and picture galleries. Unfortunately teleport.exe has a nasty function of adding it's own text to modify the script HTML files. For example:

<p><center><img src="../bluline.gif"></center></p>

will be downloaded as:

<P><CENTER><IMG SRC="../bluline.gif" tppabs="http://www.sm0vpo.com/bluline.gif"></CENTER></P>

MyDomain.com Domain forwarding for www.sm0vpo.com does not allow, for example, "http://www.sm0vpo.com/us/us.htm" to function. The directories and filenames will be forwarded on http://www.altervista.org/us/us.htm. If anyone knows how to correct this I would be really grateful. It does work with http://85.226.187.247/us/us.htm directly, but not using domain forwarding.

External links were also destroyed by teleport, for example:

<p>Maj-Lis's loves preparing food and she was educated in the 60s at <a href="http://www.restauranghasselbacken.com/">Hasselbacken restaurant and hotelier school</a>.</p>

This one-liner suddenly became:

<P>Maj-Lis's loves preparing food and she was educated in the 60s at <a href="javascript:if(confirm('http://www.restauranghasselbacken.com/om_hasselbacken/historia.aspx  \n\nThis file was not retrieved by Teleport Pro, because it is addressed on a domain or path outside the boundaries set for its Starting Address.  \n\nDo you want to open it from the server?'))window.location='http://www.restauranghasselbacken.com/om_hasselbacken/historia.aspx'" tppabs="http://www.restauranghasselbacken.com/om_hasselbacken/historia.aspx">Hasselbacken restaurant and hotelier school</a>.</P>

I have spent hours cleaning all this rubbish from the HTML files on my homepages, and there were 100s of files so infected. I have been editing all the files manually using notepad.exe. Most html files were reduced in size by typically 30%!!.I think I have now got them all, but if you should see a page like this then can you please let me know. Just reply to this post, or send me e-mail to "hotmail at sm0vpo.com" (no! it IS written correctly, if you ONLY remove the spaces and change "at" for "@").

I will try to find another domain service provider that allows direct links to sub-directories and files, and perhaps create a new domain, such as www.sm0vpo.org. This will make it a lot easier to users of HHH to link to specific projects. I believe that this is the reason that http://sm0vpo.altervista.org is so popular. Unfortunately I have only 1GB of storage on altervista, so the links to the 16,000 PDF datasheets and large files (eg MP3 and MP4 etc) have to be re-directed to my home server.

Until then, if you want to copy a link from www.sm0vpo.com to a specific project, then in the index pages; right-click on the project and select "open in a new window". Then you will get copyable URL, such as http://85.226.187.247/<directory>/<project>.htm that you can copy/paste into documents forums. The only problem with this is that my home IP-address is dynamic. This means that if my home router is offline for any length of time then the IP-address will change. Thankfully this happens very rarely, perhaps once every year or two.

Very best regards from Harry - SM0VPO
