MUCH better than a digital one!
You should also get an ancient Tektronix sampling oscilloscope :-)

Have a look here - in danish - 6-7 analogue oscilloscopes for sale:

174 !:

Hi Ruud,
I also agree with you 100%. I really do miss my analogue scope.
My digital scope is good, but there are some really weird effects, especially if the time-base is set to a figure widely outside the range one would "normally" expect to use for a given input frequency. I have learned many of the limitations of my new digital scope. The biggest advantages are that I can capture screens and the display is big.
I have had a lot of other things happening over the past year, but I hope to finish my analogue scope that I started more than a year ago. The screen is smaller, but as you pointed out, a noiseless trace is far more usable when you are looking at audio.
Very best regards from Harry - sm0vpo

Hi Ruud,
you are 100% right. Analog does not mean worse. Unfortunately digitization is "cool" and digital devices are manufactured more easily in fact.

Buying an oscilloscope in 2023...
In the topic "Analogue AF Generator" I saw that you own a digital oscilloscope.
Until recently I used a 40 year old Philips oscilloscope, but lately the device started to have some problems.
So I looked for a replacement...
To my surprise it is hardly possible to buy an analog oscilloscope these days.
After a long search and comparison, I found a digital scope that seemed to meet my requirements.
In practice, the result is very disappointing to me: a lot of 'noise' on the displayed waveform and clumsy operation via menus. I'm afraid that after 40 years of using an analog oscilloscope, I won't soon become 'friends' with a digital oscilloscope!
Shortly after my bad experience, I still managed to find a good new analog oscilloscope, 2 channels, 20 Mhz.
Because I mainly work with low frequency circuits, this is more than enough for me.
What a relief to just see a 'noise-free' thin line on the screen again!!!
(Also: that digital 'thing' had a noisy fan, which was getting louder by the minute!)
Oh, I owned the digital oscilloscope for a week before I sold it!
